RETIRED DANCER’S REACTION+REVIEW: TWICE “Perfect World” Dance Performance!

TWICE!

WTF DOES “OG KPOP STAN” EVEN MEAN?! Supposedly “original gangster”, can be seen as “old generation”, personally viewed as “old-school”.🤓

I became an avid Korean music aka Kpop listener/lover since 1998. Korean and rap music were my coping mechanisms from the bullying I experienced in middle school through high school and my love for the genre has stuck by me ever since.

Unfortunately, I took a huge break from Korean music around 2015 when I was officially diagnosed with lupus nephritis and seizures; I was receiving and battling years of chemotherapy and dialysis along with taking 32 pills a day, so I had no mental/emotional/spiritual room to keep myself updated with the genre. Luckily, I’m in remission now! Doesn’t mean that lupus and seizures are gone because I am still very capable of frequent flare-ups of I don’t take care of myself, but I make sure to do so enough to manage and live as “normally” as possible.

When I made this YouTube name, I was thinking from my graphic-design-major perspective of a brand that will not only describe what my content will be about but will also align with the times, and y’all know that “Kpop stans” have been a thang for awhile now so hence the cringe-worthy title, OG KPOP STAN. (My love for Eminem is also relevant.😂) ALSO! Just to be SUPER clear— me calling myself an “OG kpop stan” does NOT mean that anyone who’s listened to kpop after me is inferior or less-than. A kpop lifestyle is a kpop lifestyle regardless of time. Please don’t get that sh*t twisted.😛 Sooo I am currently and actively keeping a weather eye on the KPOP horizon!

FUN FACT: The finger thingy is following the “yeah yeah yeah” in the chorus. Its kinda hard to do because sometimes you dont know if you’re doing it fast or slow. and sometimes you’ll be off beat.

In terms of how powerful Jihyo was in this performance…. I feel that Jihyo has always had a very, _very_ strong sense of self-confidence in herself and her abilities (with her doubt only in terms of whether _other_ people will give her a fair chance), and it’s great to see how several of their recent songs and special stages/projects have allowed her to express said confidence. I’ve noticed it since that episode on SIXTEEN where the judge had criticised her over her weight and called her fat, at which point Jihyo followed it up by performing “All About That Bass” as her next song…. which was basically a giant middle finger at the judges while still staying classy! 😁😁

I think in one of Jihyo’s interview, the interviewee asked about how fierce Jihyo in Perfect World, a complete180 degrees change from Alcohol-Free, and she said, the concept demanded her and all member to be fierce and I agree, it’s like they’re getting drunk even without alcohol just by looking at the guy in Alcohol-Free, but then they escape from the drunk state, and realize that they had enough of all of the guys bull in Perfect World

I’m early but yes
TWICE have evolved amazingly when you consider both their MUSICALITY and CHOREOGRAPHY
The fact people used to bash them for being kinda repetitive in their early days have totally been broken now
I feel there are one of the most versatile Kpop groups out there atm even when you consider CHOREOGRAPHY

No… there was something different with TWICE. Their cuteness was a big part of their main activity but besides that, they explored different concepts or themes and even their communication broke certain stereotypes.
I don’t see a cute group who became the biggest Kpop group in the world (until early 2019).

I love your comments so much. Yeah, TWICE can do all the concepts. They fit all the concepts, and I don’t know why. 👸🔥

Twice usually doesn’t release dance practices for their japanese releases. The most we’d get is a dance performance, which really doesn’t show the complete formations, but it’s as good as it gets.
