Many of the red state legislatures where these companies operate are looking to pass laws to relax child labor restrictions so that these companies can legally do what they’ve been doing illegally and continue hiring children for dangerous jobs in dangerous environments.

Why not? I was driving semis on a farm for 10 plus hours during the summer. And why are teenagers allowed to clean at fast food establishments? Just keep the hours reasonable and and regulate it so it doesn’t interfere with school.
