Taemin is part of the group, SHINee (pronounced as shiny), which debuted in 2008 with Replay, and they are a Contemporary band with the goal of being trendsetters in all areas of music, fashion, dance, etc. which they have succeeded doing so. They have also been officially labeled as the “Princes of Kpop”! They have over 100 songs in Japanese and Korean, not including their solo songs. Each member Taemin, Jonghyun, Onew and Key with the exception of Minho have an album. Minho does have a solo single though. Taemin has the most albums as he debuted as a solo in 2014 whilst still being part of the group.

The ages of SHINee when they debuted were Onew (leader) at 18 years old, Jonghyun was 18 years old, Key was 16 years old, Minho was 16 years old and the youngest Taemin was 14 years.

Taemin is actually part of a group called SuperM at the moment while his other SHINee members are currently in the military. The group consists of Taemin of SHINee, Kai and Baekhyun of EXO, and Taeyong, Mark, Ten, and Lucas of NCT.

Move is meant to have an androgynous style, with Taemin wearing unisex clothing and with choreography that is usually meant for women and men.

“My body shape is like that of a dancer’s,” Taemin said. “It’s not too masculine or overly muscular and I wanted to take advantage of that. I thought I could show the soft lines like the dance movements of a ballet dancer by adding subtlety to my choreography. I wanted to break the idea of what male performers are supposed to show, what performances girl groups are supposed to show. There are three music videos for Move. The first one showcases the MV, the second one is a group perform each MV with back up dancers, and the third one is a duo performance MV with his choreographer, Sugawara Koharu. Taemin and Koharu are great friends and even collaborated on the dance competition show called “Hit The Stage” which they won with a score of 189, which has yet to be beaten on the show. Koharu also choreographed the “Hit The Stage” choreography.

It was a big surprise when Shawols (SHINee fans) saw the MV for Move though. People have been calling Taemin feminine for pretty much his whole career. When SHINee debuted, they went on a variety show and acted and dressed as high school girls. People were amazed at how Taemin looked like a girl and this kept being brought up in future variety. He was uncomfortable with this, and always tried to emphasis he was a male.

When Taemin had to do a cross dressing completion with other idols, he actually asked the judges to vote for the other idol because he didn’t want to win. Taemin has also dressed as a girl a lot over years, like in SNL, Concert VCRs, and has even been serenadted by to other other idols while they sang.

During Sherlock promotions, Taemin got hair extension glued in, which gave him shoulder length hair, which then caused people to call him prettier than a girl. There was even a “girl group alert” sent which was meant to warm them that he was prettier than girl group members. His SHINee members said that if Taemin knew he would look like a girl than Taemin would have never got hair extensions.

Taemin has even said that he would clear his throat deeply when entering the bathroom when he had his long hair, as people didn’t he release he was a man at first. Taemin has also been voted on Weekly Idol as number 1 Crossdressing Idol, which he was not happy about.

While he was insecure about this for a long while, he has now learned to accept it. Taemin embraced an androgynous concept in his song “Move” and even wore gender neutral clothing while dancing both “men” and “women” typical traditional moves. I’m so proud of him!

Well that was a dance practice for an official special stage… Taemin said that it was one of the best covers he saw.
