GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Oilers (02.23.23) | Letang Scores Twice

TWICE!

After a two-day break in the schedule, the Pittsburgh Penguins returned to the ice to take on the visiting Edmonton Oilers. Kris Letang struck first, early into the opening period with his 6th goal of the season to put the Penguins up 1-0. After a handful of costly penalties, Edmonton would answer back with two goals of their own to take the lead at the end of the 1st. The second period of play wasn’t kind to Pittsburgh as the Oilers netted home four more goals to jump out to a commanding 6-1 lead. Letang would go on to score his 2nd goal of the game late in the third but the Penguins would fall to the Oilers by a score of 7-2.

If only the Penguins hadn’t had 2 goals taken away, they could have lost by 3, aka the number of shots on goal they had 23 minutes in.

Changes need to be made. This team looks great on paper but can’t string wins together. Defensemen should be a target for trade deadline

I can’t believe that Hextall still has a job.

He was fired from Philly for this very reason and obviously hasn’t learned.

Bad in every aspect of the game….scoring…defense…goaltending…& yet Hextall stands like a dummy & does nothing.

Hextall needs to be fired he was supposed to build a team around the core and I would hardly call this current roster of players a team

This team is bad and i’m fine with it. We had 17 great years but our core is now in their mid 30’s, time for a rebuild. It happens to every team at some point.

Time to sell sell sell. Get as many first round picks as possible, this is the best and deepest draft in 8 years.

I try to stay on the positive side, but this was a dumpster fire. Change is needed so badly.

Edmonton did Pittsburgh dirty you could tell they were hungry got two goals disallowed out shot and out scored them and now they knocked Pittsburgh out of a playoff spot

When you trade away all your 1st round draft picks away for rentals at the trade deadline for 10 plus years this is what you get..yes they won cups but its time to pay the piper..face it…at least hextall has not done the same like the riverboat gambler rutherford…

Disappointed! What happened to the pens at the top?!!!!! I’m not talking about the coach he can only do so much with what he has! The GM needs to make the trades! He has absolutely destroyed this roster since he has been here!

They will be bad for years. Too many old guys with years left on their contracts. Too many no trade clauses. Few players anyone would want.

i feel for the people involved. really. but the chemistry is gone. “maybe quit making them tape the sticks with rainbow colors!!. i am from mn, and a friend of mine suggested watching the pens when Crosby came. watched them all these years. do not forget, it takes years, mostly, to win cup. that said, fans pay to HOPE. i was thinking the defense moves made off season would make them stronger. but here is the small item. team speed is not what it was. i would perhaps say change Sullivan, but NHL only hires fired Canadain coaches (kidding, kind of). Sullivan actually was great move outside the norm, but he is growing old Look to next year and beyond, this year toast. NO ONE FEARS PENS!
