CELESTIQ is going to be cool, love the art deco theme, all this cool craftsmanship may not be what makes headlines when it debut’s next month, I think the biggest surprise will be under the floor.

Material cost will keep going up because every OEM ramping up EV production at the same time. It’s just unavoidable.

Impressive.

One of the few news outlets that gave context to Tesla’s “cash burn” comment by Elon 🙂

Raw material cost on EV’s comes down to battery cell cost. Companies that get a handle on battery cost, will be the winners. USA start ups are going to struggle here, they just do not have the scale to control anything. Tesla buys 99% of battery cells from suppliers, so those suppliers take a cut of the profit, this is a substantial disadvantage.

Does that mean when ICE factories drop below 80% capacity, they are no longer profitable? So only a small downturn would collapse markets?

8:58: About CATL Qilin: I think the 255 Wh/kg is not for the cells but for the entire pack. And if this is true, that is quite a big thing.

The materials are more expensive in a BEV but they are supposed to be cheaper to assemble.
If a BEV was only $3000-$4000 more than a ICE. They would be selling like hot cakes. They are going for $10,000-$20,000 or more than a comparable ICEV.

The argument is that Tesla could advertise merely to gain some of the leverage that legacies have with their billions of marketing budgets: It goes without saying that corporate media tends to avoid biting the hand that feeds it.

I don’t know if that’s worth it (yet), maybe in a few years that business model may even become less relevant as more people change their media consumption habits. But we’ll see I guess.

Any subsidy for EV’s should prioritize getting as many working class people electrified as possible. We need BEV’s for the 99% if we want to reverse climate change, not grease the wheel for already wealthy people don’t need a hand up or hand out. They are strong and powerful enough to help themselves!

Whatever nation or company can lower that price gap will probably win the day… I’m guessing places like Vietnam and Vinfast have a huge advantage even over China due to the fractional labor costs..

I can never understand the benefits/spectacle of tyre burning except for a disregard of material, energy and air quality.

Only pointing out “Raw Material Costs” is extremely misleading…. For example EVs use less parts… And less expensive materials are replacing more expensive materials….

But thank goodness that, I have at least learned to ignore the silly Elon/Tesla stories lol

You report on a dream car from Cadillac but no mention of Aptera who will be delivering the most efficient ev in the world by the end of the year!
