Her family was not too excited about her giving up ballet to take a shot in the dark at becoming a K Pop star. But to say it worked out OK for her is an understatement.
Wonderful reaction and explainer – here is an irrelevant fact: Although K-Pop is primarily with Korean Artists and Mina can speak Korean she is actually Japanese. She was born in the US (San Antonio, TX) but raised in Japan. She learned ballet in Japan before deciding to try K-Pop. The group she is a part of has three Japanese members and one Taiwanese member. Not entirely unique in K-Pop but i thought i’d mention it anyways.
I don’t know much of anything about Twice, but I liked your other videos so decided to watch. It was really fun! Thank you for all the history lessons! And good luck on your midterms!

I have been a fan of Twice and have watched Mina do ballet but since I dont know anything about ballet I’ve never truly appreciated her performance so thanks for sharing your ballet knowledge on what makes her performances hard and/or beautiful and what the techniques are that are important in ballet. I’ve been a twice fan for a while now, and actually Mina is my bias, but I honestly don’t know much about ballet or dancing to be honest but I appreciate alot your knowledge, kpop is beautiful but sometimes is hard to appreciate ballet or even contemporary dancers cause most choreographies are not that focused on that, which is understanble but it’s just nice to learn about the details we the fans can’t really see or understand, thank you really 😊

Mina gave up her ballet training when she decided to train to become a kpop idol (which we all know is a full-time training, and apart from taking dancing, singing, performance lessons, she had to learn a whole new language).
Momo is the other main dancer in Twice (often called the best female dancer of the 3rd generation of kpop by important choreographers and other idols) and even if she never got ballet training, she tried some things with Mina. I would be especially interested in you reviewing their performance for Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” they did during a concert. They also did a performance to Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love” but like a creepy version which is very cool.

Edit: wanna add that kpop award shows etc where we normally see them perform, a lot of the times are very bad, one time basically every single group had someone fall or slip due to the floor being made of LED screens so I commend them for still pushing through
Twice Mina is one of the Main dancers in the group, her ballet background did help in getting her into the group with just 1 year of being a JYPE Trainee back in 2015. Mina revealed on one of her interviews that she isn’t particularly a “Creative” person but follows directions very well, so if you give her proper instructions to do something, she will execute it, to the tee. She is also nicknamed “Penguin” by the fans because she “waddles” when she walks, effects of her long ballet training.
